If you're looking for a smart, happy, and totally loveable dog, Zeus might just be your new best friend! This confident boy is full of personality - he's curious, playful, and always up for a little adventure.
While he enjoys his walks and fun outings, he's not overly demanding when it comes to exercise, making him a great fit for active individuals or families who want a buddy to share their day with.
Zeus is very social with people and loves to be part of whatever's going on. He's affectionate, engaging, and even a little cheeky - just enough to keep you smiling! He would do best with experienced dog owners who can appreciate his clever mind and outgoing nature.
Adaptable and easy-going, Zeus can settle into almost any home environment as long as he's surrounded by experienced people who love him.
Ideal Home: Zeus is fine to live in either a standalone home or on a farm/acerage, with a medium to large yard and high, secure fencing.
Family: Zeus is open to meet kids from 10 years and up. The reason for this is that Zeus is a larger dog, and he may accidently knock smaller kids over - especially during play time.
Zeus is fine to live with people who work full-time hours as he shows no signs of separation anxiety.
He is independent and able to spend time on his own without any issues. On occasion he would also love to be inside with his new family, too.
Furry Friends: Zeus is best to be the only dog in the home - for now. Reason for this is that he gives mixed signals when seeing another dog.
Sometimes he is social, and is eager to interact.
While other times he is concerned, and not interested and making friends.
But, we have to give him credit, because since he has been with us, we have been doing socialisation and desensitisation training with him and he has shown tremendous improvement. He's been able to make 'the right choices' when meeting other dogs.
Zeus is not suitable to live with cats/ pocket pets.
Training & Development: Zeus would benefit from post-adoption training such as training at home to cover basic commands/obedience. One on one training with a pro should be considered especially if his dog sociability to something you'd like to explore further. Despite being dog reactive, Zeus is manageable. Zeus knows his name and knows commands such as: sit, stay, down and shake. He is also learning commands like: loose lead walking and appears to be partly toilet trained as well. He is very food motivated, making him easy to train and has learned to take treats from your gently - so having treats on you during training to mark good behaviour would be an excellent idea.
Play: Zeus has mid-range energy needs & would benefit from exercise, play, or walks from 20-60mins a day to keep him healthy and happy. Zeus loves to play with toys - he likes all toys but has a special love for soft toys. He also likes personal play with his handlers, training sessions, keeping his brain engaged and going for walks.
Zeus walks well on lead, but he can pull - especially if he sees another dog - he has been making progress with loose lead walk training though which means he will be easier to walk. He is fine to be walked on either a harness, collar or martingale.
Staff Comments: Zeus is a very sweet boy. Despite his size he is fairly chill and would suit most homes. He loves to chat to you and isn't afraid to wear his heart on his sleeve - what you see is what you get.
!! Please help, Zeus is running out of time due to no fault of his own - he is the longest termer in the shelter and at high risk due to capacity !!
